- « It was very interesting because Charles Holdefer talked about his books so we learnt more about them.We learnt that he started to write 13 years old because during his childhood, he lived in a farm, so he spent time reading. Also after his speech about his books and his works in website of literature, he gave us lot of time to ask him questions if we had any. It was cool because we could talked more with him. We knew that he doesn’t read French literature because it’s complicated for him so he just reads translations. His most famous masterpiece was Back in the Game. To conclude I think it was a good intervention because we learnt lot of things. »
- « First of all, he presented his life, his books, his childhood ; he grew up in a farm. It was interesting to listen to the story of his life. I found that it was easy to understand when he spoke. Also, it was interesting to speak with him and listen to his advice to become a writer. I liked when he showed us how he writes a book and when he showed us a picture of his rough draft. I really liked the fact that he was honest with us when he said that it’s difficult to become famous and live only with the writer’s money so you have to do another job to survive, for example, he is a writer but also a teacher. Also, I liked when he was honest with us when he said that you have to compromise with your publisher for the text, the title and a lot of other things. To conclude, I found his conference very interesting and I really liked the fact that he was honest with us about the job of writer and told us the truth of what life is and didn’t try to sell dreams to us. »
- « During the meeting, the thing that I liked was the way Charles took to explain a title, a story for example ; moreover his explanations were very clear so it was easy to understand It was a good expérience and this kind of exchange is the opportunity to improve skills, and I fond it interesting »
- « Charles Holdefer is an American novelist. He came to France because he fell in love with a French woman. He had to learn French when he arrived there. Then, he started teaching in Paris and afterwards he moved to Poitiers, where he is still teaching today. His most famous masterpiece is Back in the Game. During his childhood he lived in a farm, so he spent his time reading. But he didn’t read French literature because it was too difficult. He read the translated versions. He started writing when he was thirteen. His first book wasn’t published because no one wanted it. For one of his books, he chose a title that his publisher didn’t like, so they found one they both liked. That book became the book Nice. »
